Ever
seen a "Prop Pitch" rotator?
Below
are a couple of the many
Rotators
used at WB9Z.

WB9Z and the Prop Pitch |
This is the prop
pitch rotor that failed after the massive lightning storm August 22, 2001.
I had damage on 5 of the 9 rotors.
The prop pitch is about the only rotor that will handle the M2 3 element 80 meter yagi. This yagi has three 95' linear loaded elements on a 60' boom. This antenna has approximately 35 square feet of wind load and is on a 140' self supporting tower. |
The prop pitch motors are now hard to find, since most were removed from heavy aircraft engines manufactured in the 1940's - 1960's. |

A PRO.SIS.TEL. PST71 manufactured in Italy and marketed in the USA by ARRAY SOLUTIONS. This and many other fine tower, antenna, rotor, antenna phasing, and station products can be viewed at www.arraysolutions.com The PST71 is rated for 81 square feet of wind load. In this photo is a "C" control box, this is their top of the line control box. It has digital readout and has many memories so you can preset the most often used antenna headings from your station. It even "talks" to you if you turn up the audio gain and gives you a report on the heading in degrees when it starts and stops. This would be nice for folks with vision problems. |
The M2 18XXX
2 meter yagi is 18 elements on a 36' boom. I added overhead
and side trusses made of black Dacron rope to keep the boom from breaking
under icing conditions.
This yagi is mounted horizontality at 125' and is a high gain antenna used to work tropo, aurora and meteor scatter on 2 meters. This antenna is a cannon and has 15db of forward gain. Running 800 watts on 2 meter cw, on one recent aurora opening I worked stations as far away as MA, CT, CO, GA , TX, FL, NC, SC, to name a few. I'm looking forward to using this antenna in the upcoming VHF Contest. |
